Brilliant Bangladesh thrash Windies

Bangladesh restored some pride as they thrashed West Indies by eight wickets in the third and final ODI in Chittagong.

Two behind in the three-game series, the home side ended on a high as they bowled the

 tourists out for a meagre 61 - the second-lowest total in their illustrious history - and then chased down the runs they needed in a watchful 20 overs to seal the win.

The only slight mitigation the West Indies could claim was that they were asked to bat first on a track made heavy by a deluge of rain prior to the toss, while batting conditions were hardly ideal for both sides with the ball zipping everywhere.

Only two West Indies batsman - Kieran Powell (25) and Carlos Braithwaite (11) made double figures, though, as Shakib Al Hasan (four for 16) ripped through their line-up on his way to 150 ODI wickets.

With the skies still heavy when they started their response, the home side also found the going tough but decisively managed to keep the majority of their wickets intact.

Pinch-hitting openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes took them to 24 without loss from the first four overs, although their partnership was ended a run later when the latter could only guide a bouncer from Kemar Roach into the hands of Kieran Pollard.

A collapse of West Indies proportions looked a possibility 13 balls and five runs later when Shahriar Nafees lost his stumps to Marlon Samuels, but Mushfiqur Rahim joined Tamim at the crease and the two put on a ship-steadying partnership of 32 to see them over the line.

Tamim`s 62-ball 36 was the match-winner, with Mushfiqur adding a careful 10.

Having been asked to bat first, the West Indies racked up a score second only to their 54 all out against South Africa eight years ago.

They trudged along to eight without loss after 32 balls when the first wicket fell - Danza Hyatt edging Nazmul Hossain to slip.

Powell found the boundary four times in quick succession but Samuels soon deserted him as he got tied up by Shafiul Islam.

Three balls later Powell was gone himself, turned inside out by a wonder ball from Nasir Hossain, who was on a hat-trick a ball later when Pollard gave him the simplest of caught and bowled opportunities.

The hat-trick evaded him, but the West Indies collapse continued, with Darren Bravo holing out to Islam and Darren Sammy getting pinned in front by Shakib, who also took Dinesh Ramdin`s stumps away.

Andre Russell then gave Suhrawadi Shuvo a caught and bowled, Braithwaite was trapped leg before by Shakib after some brief resistance and Anthony Martin was cleaned up by the same bowler to end the innings in 22 overs.
